MAX has always been the fastest and most powerful layout editor, and has always worked with existing tool flows. Now it’s even easier for chip designers to share information among various tools through the use of OpenAccess.
Another problem facing chip designers is the lack of interoperable process design kits (PDKs). The IPL Alliance solves this problem through the use of open standards for PCells. Micro Magic, Inc. is now an official member of the IPL Alliance. The entire MAX family of layout tools now has the ability to use IPL-based PDKs.
By combining the world’s fastest layout editor with OpenAccess and IPL standards, Micro Magic provides real choice for chip design professionals.
“Joining OpenAccess and IPL are a natural extension of our philosophy – which has always been to push for and quickly adopt open standards for tool interoperability” said Mark Santoro, PhD, Micro Magic’s CEO.
MAX is the fastest layout system for any size IC - able to load, view and edit designs of more than one trillion (1,000,000,000,000) devices in real time.
Pricing of the MAX series is unchanged. Current Micro Magic MAX customers get the OpenAccess upgrade at no additional charge.
About OpenAccess and Si2
OpenAccess is a community effort to provide true interoperability, not just data exchange, among IC design tools through an open standard data API and reference database supporting that API for IC design. The OpenAccess Coalition is a neutral organization of industry leaders that are leading this effort operating under Si2 bylaws.
IPL (Interoperable PDK Libraries) is an industry alliance established on April 2007 to collaborate on the creation and distribution of an open-source interoperable PCell library that supports the OpenAccess database from the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2).
In November 2007, IPL formed three technical working groups for 1) Properties and Parameters, 2) PCells and 3) Constraints. Also, the organization expanded its charter to address broader interoperability issues with foundry process design kits (PDK) and design flows.
IPL current members include:
Applied Wave Research (AWR), Ciranova, Helic, JEDAT,
Magma Design Automation, Mentor Graphics, Micro Magic, Inc.,
Silicon Canvas, Silicon Navigator, Synopsys, Virage Logic.
Mentor Graphics and Pulsic are supporting members.
MAX, MAX-LS, MAX-3D, and MAX-View are trademarks of Micro Magic, Inc.
Ciranova, PyCell Studio, PyCell and PCell Xtreme are trademarks of Ciranova, Inc. OpenAccess is trademarked by Si2 – Silicon Integration Initiative
